Half Hardy Annauls

These are plants, mostly from tropical or warm regions, that are unable to withstand frost, and it is not possible to plant the seedlings out-of-doors until early June. They are raised from seed sown under glass in February and treated generally as recommended for hardy annuals raised under glass at the same time. When selecting a position out-of-doors full sun is desirable, and a position with a southern aspect is distinctly advantageous, unless the plant in question is shade loving.

Certain plant, such as the zinnia, are best grown on in pots in their seedlings stage, and it is only in summers where there are long periods of sunshine that they can be relied upon to give a good account of themselves out-of-doors.
